The Chapel of São Benedito has become one of the most popular places for weddings and baptisms by the sea. Until the second half of the 20th century, the small building was used only as a place
of worship on a farm. The Rocha family, the current owners, held masses, processions and other religious ceremonies in honor of Saint Benedict there, attended by relatives and friends.
To raise money for renovations, they opened the church to the public. The beauty of the place at the mouth of the Rio Formoso attracted many tourists and brought with it inns and restaurants.
