The bossa nova song ‘The Girl from Ipanema’ by Tom Jobim still characterises our image of Brazil for many. Copacabana, beach, sun, samba, skimpy bikinis, the Sugar Loaf Mountain and the Rio Carnival. However, this cliché does not reflect everything that Brazilian cities have to offer.

Brazil is so big that it is difficult to choose the most beautiful cities. Many lesser-known cities tell their own stories. They are rarely found in European travel agencies. But it is precisely these cities that epitomise the true Brazil with its culture and joie de vivre. I would like to introduce you to some of these fascinating places.
